Accessing IPMI Functions via ssh (Dell servers)
This is an alternate method to access basic functions provided by ipmitool over ssh instead of using the UDP protocol. This is setup is a bit nicer to setup because it is simpler to debug, but the iDRAC command line is not particularly friendly.
Setting Up IPMI/ssh Access
The normal ipmi BIOS settings need to be configured. This includes:
Network settings on the shadow network for the host.
Enable ipmi via LAN.
Set the root user's password.
Make sure that the firewall rules have been defined to allow the bastion hosts to connect to port 22 on the shadownet.
Using iDRAC command line
Use ssh to login to the iDRAC as the root user.
ssh root@mysql02-ipmi.console.sunet
At this point you will be present with the '/admin1->' prompt.
The system can be configure from the command line, but generally that is useful only when the BIOS setup is not available for some reason. The most useful commands are the power up/down commands show below. More complete documentation is at the Dell support site.start /system1 stop /system1 reset /system1
