Rings Picture Gallery Loading From a Mac

This procedure assumes that the images are created using Epson's FastFoto software and assumes the ring id of "delaine". The procedure can generally be used to move to other rings, but the helper scripts will need to be adjusted or expanded to support multiple rings.

Detailed Steps

  1. Scan the images. The scan starts by asking for a year, a month/season, and a subject. If the dates are know it is find to enter year and month. Frequently the date is not know for scanned images so the date can be ignore. The subject can be anything and is a useful way to group images. To keep from over whelming the software it works best to scan is groups of images less than 150 files.

  2. Move the images to AFS. The point is to move the local FastFoto images to an AFS volume. The script move-ff-to-afs.sh will move the images to the directory /afs/.cz/pictures/delaine/prints/FastFoto. The script and be run multiple times and will only move new files. For example:

     cd ~/Pictures
     /afs/cz/pictures/delaine/move-ff-to-afs.sh move

  3. Login to keddie and obtain an AFS token.

  4. Execute the script /afs/cz/pictures/delaine/move-a-to-rings.sh. This script should be executed from the directory /afs/cz/pictures/delaine. The script assumes that pictures have been "enhanced" and are idenfified by the file name patter '_a.'. The script also moves "*_b" files, i.e. any backs that have been scanned. For example:

    cd /afs/.cz/pictures/delaine/prints/FastFoto
    /afs/cz/pictures/delaine/move-a-to-rings.sh move

  5. Now request that the images be loaded into the Rings gallery application using remctl.

    remctl cz-rings ring-load find delaine
    remctl cz-rings ring-load load delaine 0011-loose

  6. Now go into Picture Maint and update the dates and tags.
